Moving & Packing

Last Friday was my last day at work.  I am busy packing up what we have not packed over the last few months and moving it all to the garage.  Movers are coming on the 26th to finish packing what I have not gotten into boxes, mainly tools and kitchen.  They will load up the truck on the 27th and deliver our furniture and stuff on the 28th. Nothing like a Christmas/New Years move.  We are excited for what the future will bring.

Definitely moving

Over the last week it has become apparent that the lab has funding for possibly 2 people for another couple of months but at this point nothing is guaranteed.  Everyone in the lab is making plans for cutting back expenses and such. We have decided to take Dr. Soni's offer and will be moving to Tennessee around Christmas.  I am giving my 2 week notice when I return to work after the break.  While I will miss my co-workers and friends, I feel it is the best thing for us.  Our house is still on the market and at this point has had 2 open houses but not had any offers.

Way things happen

This past summer David's boss leaves and goes to Tennessee Tech.  He offers to take several people from the lab.  David and I discuss it and decide to put the house on the market because at this point no one knows what is going to happen at the lab David is working in, it is entirely possible that come January 1, there is no funding for anyone of the 8 people working there.

The way things go

Well, Spring Break arrives.  We had planned to go to the Grand Caynon with my in-laws, but delayed that due to my mother-in-law's health and restrictions on travel right now for her.  So David took off Monday and Tuesday to spend the time with Xander.

David has been telling me that he had pulled a muscle or slept wrong for the last week.  Tuesday night when we dropped Xander off with David's parents at dinner, David tells us that he is having sharp pains in his left elbow.  My mother-in-laws first thought is heart and David tells her no, it is not in his chest.  On the drive home, he complains of more sharp pains.  I mention going to the emergency room.  He agrees to go to the doc in the box on the way home from work the next day if it is still bothering him.  Of course it is, and now his hand is actually going numb.  They give him a few little tests and tell him to go imediately to the ER.

We go to the ER.  We spend the night sitting in ER room taking X-Ray's, EKG's, MRI's and finally being told that he has a bulging disc that is so bad that they recommend surgery as soon as they can get a surgerical room available, which looked to be around twelve hours from then.  So sent facebook messages  to keep people informed, because for once, I did not have my phone chargers on me but I did have my iPad charger and the hospital had free wifi.

David ended up having  spinal surgery on C6 and C7 Thursday afternoon.  It was only supposed to take about 3 hours but took a little longer because of the size of his bones.  The doctor said he had neck bones the size of some peoples back bones.  He finally got to his room for the night around 8:45, Xander got to kiss him good night before heading back to Decatur with David's parents.  I stayed for about another hour to make sure he was situated and then I carried out all his clothes and drove home to take care of the dogs and grab 6 hours of sleep before heading back to the hospital to pick him up to come home.

Hard work done around the house by David

As you have read, David had started painting the walls in the living room before Christmas.  He has since finished painting the walls and has now started painting the ceiling.

You can't tell it well in these photo's

This one shows it better but only has 1 coat of paint on the ceiling

Now to the outside we go.
We have had some nice weather down here.  We had 50+, 60+, 70+ days so we spent the weekend working on the garden

We decided to splurge and buy rubber mulch and see how that works/lasts.

Painting of Ceilings

Well, David started painting the Kitchen ceiling and he finished half the Kitchen with 2 coats, the other half has not received its first coat as yet.  He has now started on the living room ceiling and 1/3 has received its second coat, another 1/3 has received its first coat with the 2/3 awaiting its first coat.  He has started hanging the screen door on the back porch but we need to go buy some spacer pieces the length (height) of the doorway to finish.  He has arranged for someone to come out next week to install the other 2 screen doors.  The doors have gotten use to using the dog door in the new screen door so I won't have to go out to finish letting them outside. YEAH.

Painting

Well this past weekend, David finished painting the Living Room walls.  Now we just need to do the ceiling, baseboards, and crown molding.  Last week he had started painting the Kitchen ceiling, painted about half of the ceiling with one coat and we have not touched it since. At least the Living room walls were done.  The living room is already starting to look better.

Painting, Cleaning, Quilting, etc

So, we finally decided on a color for the kitchen.  David is now working on finishing at least the walls in the living room.  He has patched up all the spots that needed fixing in the living room.  He has also started putting the first coat on the ceiling in the kitchen.

I have been cleaning the DVD bookcase, dusted it from top to bottom, reorganized and decorated.  Working on cleaning up the kitchen.

I am hoping to get the dining room cleaned up so David can paint the ceiling.  He wants it cleaned up so he can paint the whole room, I want it cleaned up so he can paint the ceiling and I can start back to working on my quilts.

This past weekend, Xander helped clean up and sorting for donating a lot of clothes to Hannah Homes/Kings Ranch.  I have found a few more items to donate next month.

Xander is enjoying his drum lessons.  The last few weeks I have been taking Xander to Tuscaloosa for his Drum lessons, we grab lunch right before his lessons.  While we are gone, David has been using the quiet time to study (or as quiet as the time can be with 2 dogs that constantly want in or out when someone is home).  He seems to be able to accomplish a lot of what he wants/needs to get done while we are gone, at least more than he would in the same amount of time when we are all at home on the weekends.

Smart phones

This morning, my phone decided that the passcode I have been using is incorrect.  I tried everything.  I ended up calling Verizon's support to have them walk me through doing a hard reset.  While waiting for the phone to come back up and verify that it was working, I mentioned that my husband had told me that lately, at some point during the night my phone would reboot itself several times, with no pattern to the length of time between reboots.  She asked if I had any other problems and I told it will tell me that it is low on space but when you go and actually look it still has plenty of space.  She looked it up and said the space issue was a software issue but for some reason they never fixed the problem they just released a new version of the phone.  The rebooting issue she said was due to the batteries on smartphones are only made to last about a year. I don't have a house phone so my cell stays on 24/7 and I do a shut down/restart every so often, which means my battery won't last they typical life span they are supposed to have. She asked me if I wanted to order a new battery since my phone is 2 years old.  I told her I was debating on getting new phones anyways, and that I would wait and see what we decide to do about the phones.

On Results

Well, last Wednesday I went to the specialist for the second mammogram (they did an ultrasound mammogram).  She did not see what the first mammogram saw, but she saw something else, so she sent me for a another mammogram.  Well yesterday I went in for the ultrasound on my bladder, I should mention that when I woke up on Monday, it was painful to bend over. Well the ultrasound did not show any reason that there would be blood in my urine, but they looked where I was experiencing pain and found a 2 cm cyst on my ovaries.  My OB-GYN did a quick little biopsy on it and hope to get the results back soon.  I then went down to have the 3rd mammogram (they did an ultrasound mammogram), they saw cyst clusters, so they sent me for the 4th mammogram (compression) and found something that they then sent me back to the specialist to see.  I walked directly over to her office and once she looked them over, she said she didn't think it was anything to worry about but that she was sending me over for a biopsy on my breast and that my appointment was in the next hour.  I was at the hospital for all these appointments from 8:30 until around 3:15.  Needless to say I did not make it into work.  I will find out the results of the biopsy on Monday.  Praying that like 2 years ago, it turns out to be nothing.

New Year

David ended 2012 and began 2013 with illnesses.  Thanksgiving weekend he developed the stomach bug that was going round. The week before Christmas, we took him to the Doc in the Box cause he was coughing and driving us nuts.  He was diagnosed with the flu and spent the next 10 days in bed for most of that time. New Year, he says his ear is bothering him, so back to the Doc in the Box.  He has a ear infection.

I go to see my Doctors for my annuals.  1st Doctor, said there was some blood in my urine   I go to see my next Doctor, she said there is blood in my urine and wants to do an ultrasound on my bladder.  Also, my mammogram came back and sending to see another Doctor for an ultrasound mammogram.  I saw this Doctor today.  She doesn't see the lump that they are showing in one view but they are showing in another view, but she is seeing a small cyst in another location.  She is sending to a Diagnostic Center next week, on the same day I am going in for the ultrasound on my bladder, to have a compression mammogram done.

Needless to say, I am a bit nervous.  2 years ago, just days before Christmas, they saw something, they could not schedule me in to do all these same tests until after Christmas, and then ended up doing a biopsy and said it was just fatty tissue, nothing to worry about.

I didn't  say anything at the time to anyone in my family because I did not want to cause anyone any worries at Christmas for something that may (and did) turn out to be nothing.  I was told by everyone that they were not happy that I had not shared my worries with them.  I tried to explain that, with all the other things that have happened to our extended family over the years, that I wanted to let everyone have a good Christmas without this cloud over there heads, that waiting until after the holiday, it would still be there.  Now I find myself back in this holding pattern and thinking I should wait, but knowing that I will hear many complaints if I wait.  I don't have an excuse about not wanting to ruin anyone's holiday.

I have always been emotional about giving any kind of bad news over the phone.  I  start thinking about it and crying and then no one can understand and causes them more worry, but they don't want to hear the news in an e-mail or text, cause it is too impersonal, whereas then at least I can get the information to them without crying.  Perfect example - when my son was 15 months old we took him to the Doctor and was sent to a specialist within 2 hours of seeing the first Doctor.  By the time I had stopped at the bank to get cash for parking at the specialists office and driven to their office and checked in.  They had already reviewed the test results and were waiting for me to walk in the door to tell me that we were being admitted to Children's hospital for surgery, that my son had developed a bone infection in his wrist and since he had not eaten anything that day, they could do the surgery that night.  I called my husband at work and all he could understand was the location of the doctors office that I was sitting in and he left and came to find out what I was trying to tell him over the phone.  He ended up having to tell my parents because every time I would get out 2 words, the tears would just start pouring and I couldn't talk about it.
